candid moments
About the value of digital clutter
The series CANDID MOMENTS captures fleeting moments that are produced in vast quantities in our digital world. The paintings focus on this "data waste," transforming seemingly failed photos into fragile, meaningful instants.

The appreciation of an authentic moment often takes a backseat to our idea of how it should be remembered. Spontaneous shots that don’t meet our aesthetic standards are usually left unnoticed, ending up as digital “data waste” on a storage device.
The painting series CANDID MOMENTS questions this phenomenon and invites reflection on the moments in which we produce such digital leftovers. Why do we feel the need to capture something? Isn’t the camera, in many cases, more of a disturbance – especially in situations that don’t require a photo, or that are even ruined by our urge to document them?
In a world where digital photos are endless and interchangeable, this series highlights fragile, fleeting moments. Through painting, it transforms the need to emotionally "capture" into a more lasting form of remembrance. As an alternative to data waste, the depicted situations are given the value they truly deserve.
The title CANDID MOMENTS plays on the English word “candid” (meaning honest, unposed). However, in the context of social media, a “candid photo” often refers to a carefully staged image only meant to look spontaneous.
The images originate as discarded snapshots, which are reworked starting from the phone screen and transferred onto a darkly primed canvas. What was accidental becomes intentional, and what was fleeting becomes enduring.
The series of paintings has already been exhibited at two locations in Berlin.
